Steamboat Springs names new airport manager

The Steamboat Springs Airport welcomed a new airport manager Monday when it named former Grand County Airport Supervisor Josh Schroeder to the position.

“The Colorado aviation community views Steamboat Springs Airport as a critical transportation gateway to north-central Colorado and it is a sought-after destination in the flying community,” Schroeder said in a statement. “I’m looking forward to connecting with the community, building partnerships and exploring new revenue and operation opportunities.”

Schroeder inherits the role from Stacie Fain, who was the Steamboat Springs Airport manager for eight years and retired in November 2024.

As the airport supervisor for Grand County, Schroeder oversaw all aspects of operations, maintenance, administration and compliance for the Granby and Kremmling airports.

Schroeder also oversaw seven capital improvement projects including runway and lighting rehabilitation, the development of a master plan and the relocation of the Granby automated weather observing system.

“We’re excited to have Josh join the team and bring his experience to the airfield,” said Public Works Director Jon Snyder in a statement.

Schroeder is a certified member of the American Association of Airport Executives and has accreditation in the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s National Incident Management System and Incident Command System.

In addition to his experience in airport management, Schroeder was also a member of the Grand County Search and Rescue team and provided support to the sheriff’s office by using drone systems during emergency responses.

Schroeder also volunteered for UAS Colorado as the community relations director, supporting the safe integration of unmanned aircraft systems statewide.
