• Four local firefighters returned to Routt County this week after a five-day deployment to what developed into the most destructive wildfire in Colorado’s history. Local firefighters recall deployment to Black Forest Fire near Colorado Springs



• Developer KC Wilson said Wednesday that he recently approached the city with an offer to purchase the Iron Horse as is for $915,000. He wants to renovate the property into a mid-level hotel. As developers eye Iron Horse Inn, Steamboat says it’s in no hurry to get rid of the property

• Steamboat Today has expanded its partnership with Google in an innovative effort to provide an alternative to subscription-based websites. Steamboat Today expands online partnership with Google



• The six-person bluegrass band began seven years ago in Jackson Hole, Wyo., and now prepares for its first gig at Carl’s Tavern in Steamboat Springs. The free show is at 10 p.m. Thursday. Bluegrass band One Ton Pig to make Carl’s Tavern debut in Steamboat on Thursday

• The Beall Trail is named after former Routt County Commissioner Ben Beall, who for 13 years served as chairman of the Emerald Mountain Partnership and pushed for a land exchange that opened up new trail opportunities. BLM opens Beall Trail on Emerald Mountain outside Steamboat one week early

• The Mugshot Coffee Shop in Oak Creek isn’t just a coffee shop anymore. And Kay Brockmeyer, who bought the shop last fall, decided to make a change to illustrate that fact: Meet Kate’s Cafe. Oak Creek coffee shop becomes Kate’s Cafe, expands offerings

• The discussion was requested by Bill Hayes. Hayes noted that street-legal ATVs are allowed on the streets in Craig. Hayden Town Council to discuss ATVs on town roads

• Western Area Power Association work on Gore Pass will leave Oak Creek electric users without power for periods Tuesday. Oak Creek power outage scheduled for Tuesday

• Soroco High School’s Jacey Schlegel won the state championship in breakaway roping at the high school state championships earlier this month. Confidence the key to Jacey Schlegel’s championship ride at rodeo

• The race starts at the base of Howelsen at Olympian Hall, and the course includes a series of trails that lead to the top of the Emerald rock quarry before finishing back down at the starting line. Howelsen Hill 8-miler is Steamboat Springs Running Series’ first trail race of the season
