Steamboat Springs’ Matt Ladley just misses at Winter X Games

— Steamboat Springs snowboarder Matt Ladley drew rave reviews from the announcers at Sunday’s Winter X Games snowboard superpipe finals, but he couldn’t quite pull off the tricks he needed to shine on one of his sports’ biggest stages.

Ladley slipped on all three of his runs, struggling to land the double cork 1080 on his runs.

Snowboarding superstar Shaun White won the event for the fourth consecutive year. His second run scored a 97.33 and was easily enough to claim the title, ahead of second-place Scotty Lago and third-place Louie Vito.

Ladley, the youngest competitor in the competition, finished eighth. His best run was his final one, which was scored at 45.66.
