— Police say a Steamboat Springs man found a way around last call Monday night when he broke into a downtown bar, drank and then passed out in the basement office.

Tyler David Pike, 27, was arrested on suspicion of felony second-degree burglary, criminal mischief and theft. A judge on Tuesday set his bond at $1,000.

According to an arrest affidavit filed in Routt County Court, Steamboat Springs Police Department officers responded to the Old Town Pub shortly after 10 a.m. Tuesday after an employee reported finding a drunken man in the basement office. The office door appeared to have been kicked in.

When the employee confronted Pike, he told the employee he was fixing the computers.

Pike was known by some of the bar employees.

According to the affidavit, an employee said that a few nights previous to the incident, Pike demanded a drink at the bar after it was closed.

“Pike became angry and had to be removed by the bouncer,” the affidavit states.

According to the affidavit, Pike told police he had been dropped off at the bar by his girlfriend.

The officer “tried to follow Pike’s story, but it became very confusing, broken and inconsistent,” the affidavit states. Pike went on to tell police that he entered the bar through a side window with his friend named Luke. He did not know Luke’s last name.

According to the affidavit, once Pike was inside the bar, he admitted to drinking beer and Jägermeister.

Sgt. Scott Middleton on Tuesday said that police think Pike then passed out in the basement office.
