Clear, sunny skis and warm temperatures created difficult waxing conditions. With nearly every ski team in the state in attendance, the Sailors had some of the fastest skis of the day.
Wyatt Mortenson led the boys team to a sixth place overall finish by scoring a top-10 finish in a stacked field.
“Wyatt is doing his best skiing of the season right now and has positioned himself well for the end of the regular season and upcoming state championships,” head coach Jesse Wilkins said.
The girls were led by Winter Boese, Zoe Bennett-Manke and Maggi Congdon.
Boese finished in 14th, Bennett-Manke claimed 23rd, and Congdon finished in 25th to help lead the Sailors to a fifth-place overall team finish.
“Winter has been dealing with a painful shin injury most of the season, but still continues to ski well,” Wilkins said. “Zoe and Maggi are both in their second seasons on the team and have continuously improved throughout those two seasons.”
The Sailors look to finish out their regular season with their only home race of the season Saturday.
The Sailors will host the entire Colorado High School Athletic Association ski league in a 5k Skate ski race at 11 a.m. on Saturday at the Steamboat Ski Touring Center.
The Sailor girls are currently No. 3 in the state in skate skiing. The top three teams in the state earn a CHSAA Ski League award at the end of the season, so the girls are looking to hold onto or improve their current standing.
