Steamboat Springs High School Alpine skiing team starts season
Steamboat Springs — The Steamboat Springs High School Alpine skiing team started off its season Friday racing at Beaver Creek Resort and was led by a strong finish by Rio Grabb.
Grabb was fourth overall in the boys race, the top Steamboat result in the two-run giant slalom event.
Grabb had a combined time of 2 minutes, 10.25 seconds. Sands Simonton, of Battle Mountain, won the race and led the way for a Huskies podium sweep. He finished in 1:59.77. Quintin Cook was second at 2:01.10, and Keenan Zopf was third at 2:06.32.
Channing Conner also had a strong finish for Steamboat, placing 11th.
On the boys side, River Ludwick was 43rd and Techid Techarukpong was 48th.
Lindsey Adler led the way for the Steamboat girls, placing 16th in 2:29.50 in a race that again was dominated by Battle Mountain. Haley Frischholz was first, in 2:07.85, and her teammate Abby Davidson was second at 2:09.67. Summit’s Eleanor Brown-Wolf was third 2:14.78.
Mariah Hoots was 19th and Catherine Brodie was 48th.
