Steamboat Springs girls lacrosse team opens season 3-0

— The Steamboat Springs girls lacrosse team picked up another win Thursday, improving to 3-0 this season with a 16-13 victory against Eaglecrest

“Today’s game against Eaglecrest was the most complete, well-played game in several years,” coach Betsy Frick said after the game. “Maura Glynn and Sammy Koepfer did a great job leading an otherwise very young defense.”

The game was tied 5-5 at the end of the first half, before Steamboat pulled away in the second en route to the win.

Freshman Riley Schott fueled the Sailor’s offense with eight goals. Lucy Shimek had six, and Cassett Yeager and Sammy Kennedy each added one. Goalkeeper Ava Thiel had five saves, and the Sailors got a huge boost from its defense, led by seniors Glynn and Koepher.

The team was scheduled to play Palmer on Friday, and will play its first home game of the season at 1 p.m. Saturday against Durango.
