Steamboat Springs girls basketball rack up second win in one week

STEAMBOAT SPRINGS — The Steamboat Springs High School girls basketball team took home a win at Summit on Friday, 46-35.

Junior Katie Lake scored 12 points, senior Lucy Shimek had 9 and Shelbee Weiss finished with 7. The Sailors held the Tigers’ leading scorer,  junior Nicole Kimball, who usually averages 11 points per game, to 7 points.

But despite Kimball’s scoring deficit, the Sailors fouled junior Anna Tomlinson enough for her to score 9 of 14 from the free-throw line.

“The girls played with a ton of confidence,” head coach George Ibarra said. “They are gelling on the court. This is the team we always knew they could be.”

The Sailors move to a 4-12 overall and 2-3 Western Slope League record. They will return to action Thursday at home against Rifle (3-11, 3-2).
