Sailors boys basketball grabs big win over Glenwood Springs on the road

STEAMBOAT SPRINGS — The Class 4A Western Slope league just got interesting.

On Saturday, Feb. 9, No. 4 Steamboat Springs High School Sailors (18-3, 9-1) defeated No. 7 Glenwood Springs Demons (16-5, 9-1) on the road, 72-46.

Until now, the Demons have been undefeated in the Western Slope League. The Demons last defeated the Sailors in Steamboat Springs 54-51 on Jan. 19. Both teams now have one league loss.

The Sailors put together a strong team shooting effort, making 81 percent from the line.

Senior Mac Riniker made 7 of 12 from the field and 9 of his 11 free throws for 23 points and amassed 10 total rebounds for a double-double performance.

Junior Ethan Pyles and senior Aden Knaus both saw success from beyond the arc. Pyles made three of his six 3-pointers and only missed one of his five free throws. Pyles collected 19 points and four assists.

Knaus also shot 50 percent from the arc, making four 3-pointers and one 2-point field goal for a 14-point performance and eight rebounds.

The Sailors will travel to Eagle Valley (8-10, 3-7) on Thursday, Feb. 14, then host Summit (5-15, 0-9) on Saturday, Feb. 16 in their final game of the regular season.
