STEAMBOAT SPRINGS — The Steamboat Ski Touring Center will host its 40th annual New Year's cross-country ski event at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 29.

The fun race encourages people to bring teams of three to ski 2K, 3.5K or 7.5K courses. The first person in each team must ski classic while the other can pick the style they prefer. Each member of the team will ski the same distance, and there will be no age or gender divisions. Families are encouraged to come out and compete.

"We usually end up with about 50 teams," Steamboat Ski touring center owner Birgitta Lindgren said. "It's something fun to ring in the new year with new resolutions and enjoy the outdoors in Steamboat Springs."

Entry is $45 per team. People can register for the event online at nordicski.net. Those who don't have their own gear should make sure to rent ahead of time.

The race will not name winners but will host a random prize drawing.
