Steamboat ski patrol member suffers serious injuries in fall

— The Routt County Sheriff’s Office says a Steamboat ski patrol member suffered serious injuries Thursday after an incident at Steamboat Ski Area.

Undersheriff Ray Birch said in an email that Michael Fosdick, 63, was found unresponsive by a skier in the area of the upper Rainbow trail. The Sheriff’s Office was notified of the incident at 10:05 a.m.

Not a lot was known about the incident as of Thursday evening.

Birch said Fosdick was skiing and fell to the ground. He was injured in the fall, but it was not known why he fell. It was unknown if the fall was the result of a medical issue.

Fosdick was flown to Denver Health Medical Center for treatment.
