Steamboat Ski Area parent company president to visit for Airline Summit
STEAMBOAT SPRINGS — The president of the Steamboat Ski Area’s parent company is paying a visit for the 19th annual Airline Partners Summit hosted by the ski area.
The speaker portion of the summit is geared toward the local business community and members of the Steamboat Springs Chamber Resort Association. It is free and will begin with a continental breakfast at 8 a.m. Tuesday. The event will go until 11:30 a.m. and takes place at the Steamboat Grand.

Ski area president and chief operating officer Rob Perlman will take the stage at 8:30 a.m to introduce the speakers, which will include Roger Dow, the president and chief operating officer for the U.S. Travel Association.
His talk is titled “Aim Higher: Rising Above the Storm Clouds Threatening Travel’s Contributions to the U.S. Economy.”
Attendees will also hear from Joel Gratz, the founder of opensnow.com, a website that provides weather forecasts for ski areas in the United States and Canada.
Possibly the most anticipated speaker is David Perry, the president and chief operating officer for the ski area’s new owner, Alterra Mountain Company.
Last Week, Alterra announced its new Ikon Pass for the 2018-19 ski season, which will compete with Vail’s Epic Pass and offer access to 23 destinations in nine states and three Canadian provinces. Specific details about pass options have not been released.
Tuesday’s event is part of a larger summit hosted by the ski area from Monday through Wednesday.
Janet Fischer, director of the airline program for the ski area, said 225 people from the airline industry were invited to the summit, which started in 2000.
“The whole idea was to get airline contacts out to Steamboat and help them understand the destination they are servicing,” Fischer said.
The ski area and greater community depends on the airline program to bring visitors to Steamboat.
“We have a relationship with pretty much every carrier because it’s important,” Fischer said. “In their world, Steamboat is really small, yet we have a lot to offer an airline.”
