Steamboat Sherpa reaches summit

Chhiring Dorje Sherpa, the world-class mountaineer who made Steamboat Springs a home for his family in recent years, reached the summit of Manaslu last week.

Manaslu, located in Dorje’s native Nepal, is the eighth-tallest mountain in the world, reaching 8,163 meters, or 26,781 feet.

He reached the top of the peak, at the end of a knife’s edge ridge, just 21 days after heading out from Steamboat Springs.

It was Dorje’s third successful summit of the peak, and he accomplished it this time with Swedish climber Fredrik Sträng and his cousin, Pemba Rita Sherpa.
