The Steamboat Springs High School boys soccer team continued to march through the Colorado High School Activities Association 3A state soccer tournament this weekend.
The Sailors earned a dominant 5-0 quarterfinal victory Saturday over the Eagle Ridge Academy Warriors in front of a packed house at Gardner Field.
Nathan Rind, a junior, opened the scoring for the Sailors in the 14th minute of the game off a beautiful ball from senior Mason Burk. Rind then scored again 8 minutes later — this time off his own rebound — to put the Sailors up 2-0.
Senior Treyden Klingemann converted a penalty kick to close out the half, increasing the lead to 3-0.
The Sailors continued their scoring barrage with two more goals in the second half.
Senior Henry Jamison scored on a 30-yard banger in the 48th minute, assisted by Burk. Burk then converted on one of his own in the 59th minute to cap off a huge performance from the senior winger, assisted by junior Kane Morris.
With another stout performance from the all-senior back line, the game saw yet another tremendous outing from goalkeeper Charlie Wiedel with his ninth “clean sheet” in 18 contests — his second in the playoffs — and every healthy, rostered player seeing time.
The No. 3-seeded Steamboat Sailors now advance to the semifinals, where they will face the No. 2-seeded Jefferson Academy Jaguars of Broomfield.
The neutral location match takes place at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Arvada’s North Area Athletic Complex. The winning team will become the top remaining seed in the brackets and will face either No. 4 The Academy or No. 8 Kent Denver, who will square off earlier in the day.
