Steamboat resident awarded automotive grant at Kansas college

STEAMBOAT SPRINGS — Steamboat Springs resident Francis Abate recently was awarded a Horizon Fund mini-grant by McPherson College, where he studies automotive restoration technology, according to a news release.

“The restoration and preservation of automobiles and related vehicles is a growing marketplace, and the skills needed to repair these cars and trucks are becoming increasingly harder to find,” Abate was quoted as saying in the release.

The school in McPherson, Kansas, awarded 10 grants of $100 to $500 to 11 students this spring. The grants are intended to help students develop innovative solutions to common problems, according to the release.
