Steamboat Pilot & Today names magazine editor
Veteran Steamboat Springs-based journalist Eugene Buchanan has been hired as the magazine editor for the Steamboat Pilot & Today. His first day was Tuesday.
In his new role, Buchanan will oversee the editorial production of At Home in Steamboat Springs magazine, the Explore Steamboat summer and winter vacation guides, and Colorado Hunter magazine.
“We’re thrilled to have someone with Eugene’s experience and reputation take over our magazine division,” Pilot & Today Editor Brent Boyer said. “Having a full-time magazine editor dedicated to the planning, organization and execution of our magazine titles will help us grow and improve what has been a successful venture for the company.”
Buchanan spent the past 2 1/2 years as editor of Steamboat Magazine. His distinguished writing career has included freelance articles published in The New York Times, Men’s Journal, Outside, National Geographic Adventure, Forbes Life and others. He has covered the X Games for ESPN.com and the Olympics for NBC. He also served as editor-in-chief of Paddler magazine for 14 years.
Buchanan is the author of two books, “Brothers on the Bashkaus” and “Outdoor Parents, Outdoor Kids.”
He lives in Steamboat with his wife, Denise, and daughters Brooke, 11, and Casey, 8.
“The Pilot & Today has a great team in place and has always done a great job keeping readers abreast of the goings-on in Steamboat Springs and Routt County,” Buchanan said. “I’m looking forward to continuing that tradition in the magazine realm.”
Buchanan can be reached at ebuchanan@SteamboatToday.com or 970-870-1376.
