Steamboat Nordic girls 5th, boys 7th at Frisco 5K

— The Steamboat Springs High School Nordic ski team is one step closer to the state championships after Saturday’s 5K skate race in Frisco.

The Sailors girls took fifth place as a team with 136 points. Lindsey Adler again was Steamboat’s top finisher, crossing in 20:51.8, good enough for 13th place. Mariah Hoots was two places behind Adler in 21:12.2. Katie Brodie finished 22nd and McKenzie Millard was 37th.

Lauren Requist crossed in 50th place, Katrina Perkins was 52nd and Brittney Starks was 79th.

Micah Gibbons was Steamboat’s top boys placer, crossing the tricky, narrow 5K course in 25th place. Tanner Richard was 32nd for the Sailors, fulfilling his goal to qualify for state in skate skiing. Peter Myller was 37th.

Riley Brodie fell victim to a crash early on in the race. He finished in 78th place.

Steamboat coach Harry Niedl was particularly impressed with newcomer River Ludwick, who finished in 43rd place, just four slots off the state-qualifying cut. Ben Lingle was 52nd, and Charlie Fisher was 67th.

The Sailors finished in seventh place as a team.
