Steamboat mountain bike team rides well in Leadville

Jett Seymour rides Sunday in a high school mountain bike event in Leadville. Seymour finished second in the freshman boys race.

— Sprints to the finish line gave Sunday to the Steamboat Springs High School mountain bike team, and sprints to the finish took.

The squad picked up a win in the sophomore boys race when Koby Vargas, second throughout the Leadville race, made a dash for the finish line. He caught his opponent and passed him, winning the race by 0.11 seconds.

“It was really exciting, a sprint finish,” coach Blair Seymour said.

Jett Seymour, meanwhile, finished second in the freshman boys race, exactly on the other side of the equation. He led much of the race and was passed on the final surge to the finish line.

First or second, it was a strong performance and one of many the Steamboat team registered on the day.

Evan Barbier was fourth in the same freshman boys race. Simon Zink was seventh in the sophomore boys race, Peter Myller was 19th and Tristan Fischer was 27th.

Tanner Visnick was 16th in the boys junior varsity race, which was shortened to one lap as a lightening storm rolled into the area. Andreas Foulk was 18th, and Dylan Wallace was 63rd in that race.

The team next competes Oct. 6 in Elbert.
