Steamboat man suspected of sexual assault

— A 25-year-old Steamboat Springs man has been arrested on suspicion of felony sexual assault related to an incident at his apartment the night of Sept. 30.

The man was arrested Friday after the female victim reported the incident to police. He is in custody with a bond set at $10,000.

According to an arrest affidavit, the woman worked with the man. They were acquaintances, but she told police she made it clear to the man that she was not attracted to him.

The woman told police that she went over to the man’s house intending to do laundry. The woman said she smoked some marijuana and drank whiskey. She said the man had also been smoking marijuana.

The woman said she laid on the man’s bed, they watched a movie, and she fell asleep.

The woman recalled that at one point the man grabbed her breast, and she told him to stop.

The woman told police she woke up during the night and noticed her pants were pulled down, and her belt was unbuckled.

The woman fell back asleep, and later awoke while being sexually assaulted, according to the affidavit. She then left without saying anything.

Police obtained text messages sent between the man and woman after the incident where the woman pleads with the man to never assault another woman again. The man apologized to her in a text message.

When interviewed by police, the man said he thought the woman was coming onto him, according to the affidavit.
