Steamboat man suspected of sex assault

STEAMBOAT SPRINGS — A 30-year-old Steamboat Springs man faces charges of felony sex assault and unlawful sexual contact after an incident involving a woman.

The female victim told police she had been on one date with the man prior to the incident.

During the second date, the woman said she sat on the man’s couch and watched a couple of movies.

They were intimate, but the woman told the man she did not want to have sex. The man then stopped being intimate.

The man asked the woman if she wanted to stay the night, and she decided to stay.

The woman told police she woke up to the man having sex with her, and she pushed the man off of her.

The next day, the woman texted the man and told him she felt like she had been taken advantage of.

The man texted back and apologized, saying he had no intention of crossing any boundaries.

The woman reported the incident to Steamboat Springs police about a month after it occurred.
