Steamboat man arrested after camera shop burglarized

— Steamboat Springs Police Department officers Saturday afternoon arrested an 18-year-old Steamboat man suspected of burglarizing a camera shop and two mobile homes.

Officer Kristin Bantle said Jeremy Phillips was arrested after officers served a search warrant at the man’s home in Dream Island Mobile Home Park. The arresting charges were felony theft by receiving and misdemeanor tampering with physical evidence. Formal charges will be filed later by the Routt County District Attorney’s Office.

Officers on Friday night received a report of a suspicious person in Dream Island and contacted Phillips. Bantle said she noticed his unique green shirt with lettering that read, “Green shirts are for pimps.”

Police later heard from a Dream Island resident who said that the green shirt that he also saw Phillips wearing belonged to him and that it was stolen out of his trailer along with a laptop and bongo drum July 5.

Police also learned early Saturday morning that the Mogils on the Mountain electronics and camera store had been burglarized. More than $28,000 worth of items had been taken. Police later recovered some of the items from a Dumpster.

Bantle said Phillips also is suspected of having taken pain pills, marijuana and keys from his ex-girlfriend’s home in West Acres Mobile Home Park in April.
