Steamboat locals ride well in Wyoming bicycle race

— Just a few hours away, Wyoming’s Laramie Enduro is always a favorite with local cyclists. As so it was again this year, with Steamboat Springs well represented in the event just across the state line.

A strong field of local riders had high finishes at the Saturday race. The Laramie Enduro takes mountain bikers along 70-plus miles of dirt trails and includes 8,600 vertical feet of total climbing.

Barkley Robinson led the way for locals in the massive race, which stretches more than 70 miles across Wyoming. He finished third in the men’s pro category, crossing the finish line in 4 hours, 58 minutes and 19 seconds.

Alex Pond was close on his heels, finishing in fifth in 5:03:46. Matt Heydon was 23rd in 5:43:06, and Mike Sharkey was 30th in 6:00:58.

Bec Bale was 15th among the women, finishing in 7:00:58.

Kevin Kopischke was 21st and Doug Karet was 22nd among the singlespeeders, finishing in 6:53:59 and 6:59:55, respectively. Nicole LeCuyer was 15th in the women’s sport division, in at 7:26:00, and Chris Arnis was 12th in 6:07:20. Michael Loomis was 35th in 6:34:02 in the men’s sport division.

Kent Eriksen and Katie Lindquist, meanwhile, dominated yet again on their tandem bike. They were the only ones tough enough to take the whole trail on a tandem, and they did so in 6:08:56.
