Steamboat house catches fire Saturday

A fire ignited at about 3 p.m. Saturday at a house at 3374 Apres Ski Way. The owners, who live in California, were not at the residence, Steamboat Springs Fire Chief Bob Struble said.

The cause of the fire is unknown, but it started in the lower area of the home and burned up the side of the house, damaging a 15-by-7-foot area of the roof, Struble said.

The interior of the house had minimal smoke damage, and thanks to a quick response from the Steamboat Springs Fire Department, little damage was done to the exterior and structure of the house. Four fire trucks responded to the incident, and if they would have arrived just five minutes later, the entire roof would have been ablaze, Struble said.
