Steamboat hockey pair part of tournament-winning team
The season may seem to just be started for “cold” sports, but a pair of Steamboat Springs hockey players have already achieved a milestone.
Steamboat Springs girls Cassett Yeager and Libby Lukens, playing for a U14 ice hockey squad, earned their way to a February international tournament in Ontario, Canada. The pair play for the Mountain States Girls Hockey League Tier II Rock Stars, which won the Western Regional Girls Silver Stick tournament in Westminster over the weekend.
The team lost its first game but then won twice to earn a spot in the weekend’s semifinals. Two more wins, including a 2-1 victory against the Colorado Selects in the final, punched the team’s ticket to a February trip to Canada.
Libby is the daughter of Jeff and Shannon Lukens of Steamboat. Cassett is the daughter of Bobby and Heather Yeager of Clark.
