Ben Ingersoll

— The night after staging a wild comeback win against Battle Mountain, the Steamboat Springs High School hockey team made quick work of Kent Denver on Saturday, dropping the Sun Devils, 6-0.

The Sailors, now 2-0 on the season, opened up a 3-0 lead after the first period and scored two goals in the final minutes. Andrew Firestone opened things up with a first-period goal, followed by Brendan Selby’s pair of goals shortly thereafter.

Dillon Chapman picked up Steamboat’s lone second-period goal. Senior captain Ben Wharton scored in the third, and Harry Wilson capped off the day’s scoring, finding the back of the net on a third-period power play.

Defensively, Trent Trask paced Steamboat with eight saves, while Kent Denver’s goalie, Jack Friedman, faced 48 Sailors shots and recorded 42 saves.

Steamboat captain Jackson Perry led both teams with three assists.

Steamboat will be back on the ice at 8 p.m. Friday at 0-1 Resurrection Christian.
