The Steamboat Springs girls cross country team finished first, and the Sailors boys placed third as a team at a meet hosted by Moffat County on Saturday in Craig.

“I was unbelievably pleased with the success from both teams,” Smith said. “It was some of the best results we’ve had at this meet in 10 years.”

The Sailors girls came in first. Fruita was second, and host Moffat County finished third. On the boys’ side, a strong Fruita team won overall, while Moffat County and Steamboat were second and third, respectively.

Jennifer Hooper once again led the way for Steamboat’s girls with a fourth-place overall finish in 20 minutes, 33 seconds. Following her were teammates: Lisl Pearson (7th-21:35), Katie Conrath (10th-21:47), Sarah MacCarthy (11th-21:58) and Lauren Lightfoot (14th-22:08).

On the boys’ side, Tyler O’Leary finished first for the Sailors, placing fifth overall in 17:48. Following O’Leary were teammates: Davis Miller (13th-18:14), Alex Miller (20th-18:36), Matt Legrice (28th-18:59) and Marty Smith (30th-19:03).

Steamboat’s cross country team has two meets remaining before the regional meet Oct. 18 in Rifle. The Sailors return to action Saturday at the Chris Severly Invitational in Aspen.
