Steamboat girls soccer wins big at Rifle
Steamboat Springs — Friday night’s game against Rifle offered the Steamboat Springs High School girls soccer team exactly the send-off it was looking for before spring break.
The Sailors beat up on the Bears, winning 8-0 in a Friday night road game, paving the way for a relaxing spring break. More importantly, Friday’s win, combined with a 3-1 win Thursday against Glenwood Springs, locked Steamboat into first place in the division.
“This was the greatest last two days,” Steamboat assistant coach Erin Dargis said. “We wanted to keep the momentum from Thursday and make sure we got the win so we could feel good as we left for the break. We’re happy we’re leaving after having played some pretty good soccer.”
Steamboat got scoring from up and down the roster. Jordan Floyd had two goals and three assists, and Emma Wilson had two goals and one assist. Gabriel Bohlmann had a goal and an assist, connecting on that pass with her sister, Natalie Bohlmann, who scored one goal. Savannah Bauknecht also scored on an assist from Ocoee Wilson, and Katie Arnis scored, converting one of Floyd’s assists.
“The girls were physically tired from Thursday night’s battle,” Dargis said. “We knew it was going to be a challenge to start with a good pace. It wasn’t pretty in the beginning, but then we put some passes together.”
Steamboat, with one regular season game remaining, improved to 7-3-2 with the win.
