Steamboat girls lax falls at Battle Mountain, 16-3

— A much-improved outing couldn’t net the Steamboat Springs High School girls lacrosse team a win in its second-to-last contest of the season at Battle Mountain Friday night.

The Sailors were within three goals of the Huskies in the first half, but the talented Battle Mountain squad ran away with it in the second en route to a 16-3 Steamboat loss.

“We played much better today than our previous two games, Steamboat coach Betsy Frick said.

Steamboat’s goals came from Thyme Zuschlag off a sprint goal, Brittney Starks off a free-position shot and Cassett Yeager off a ricochet off the Huskies’ goalie.

In front of the cage, Sailors goalie Summer Dorr had more than 15 saves in the loss, Frick said.

Today marks the final game of the season for the Sailors, and the final time in a Steamboat lacrosse uniform for seniors Megan Limberg, Kaelyn Kauffmann and Dorr. Steamboat will take on visiting Aspen at Gardner Field for an 11 a.m. game.
