Steamboat girls lacrosse falls on the road

STEAMBOAT SPRINGS — The Steamboat Springs High School lacrosse team fell on the road Saturday at Liberty High School, 17-6.

Playing for the second consecutive game without their leading scorer, Riley Schott, the Sailors struggled against Liberty’s balanced attack that featured five players who scored at least two goals.

Steamboat got three goals from Lucy Shimek, the team’s second-leading scorer, and then two from Isa DeMorat in the second and one from Julia McCarthy.

Ava Thiel had eight saves in goal for Steamboat.

The Sailors, 2-5, next play Tuesday at Battle Mountain. That’ll make for eight consecutive games on the road to start the season. Steamboat will finally play at home April 4 against Summit.
