Steamboat girls basketball falls on the road

— The Steamboat Springs High School girls basketball team struggled on the road Saturday, falling, 44-23, against Eagle Valley.

A bad day for the Sailors (3-5) got better in the second half but not enough to get the team back in the game. Steamboat scored three points in the first quarter and two in the second. It trailed, 28-5, at half. The Sailors were better after that, scoring 18 in the second half.

The loss wrapped up Steamboat’s 2014 schedule, an up-and-down start to the season in which the team struggled to adapt to key injuries. The squad is back in action Jan. 10 on the road against Delta.

Eagle Valley improved to 7-1 on the season.
