Steamboat drops first match to Durango

The Steamboat Springs girls tennis team lost to Durango, 5-2, on Thursday in Grand Junction.

Picking up wins for Steamboat was Breanne Murray at No. 2 singles and the No. 4 doubles team of Tara King and Adele Dombrowski.

Murray defeated Lindsay Eppich, 6-3, 6-4. King and Dombrowski defeated Caitlin Ireland and Meghan Eppich, 6-4, 6-2.

At No. 1 singles, Durango’s Ashley Erickson defeated Kelli Parnell, 4-6, 6-4, 7-5. Michelle Quintano defeated Steamboat’s Stacy Cavanagh, 6-2, 6-3, at No. 3 singles.

Durango also defeated Steamboat’s No. 1, No. 2 and No. 3 doubles teams.

The Sailors’ pair of Britt DeGroff and Rebecca Timmerman went three sets with Alissa Wolf and Caroline Charles before falling to the Durango pair, 6-2, 4-6, 6-3.

Natanya Mallin and Annie Taylor beat Steamboat’s No. 2 doubles team of Megan Gonio and Anya Salzgeber, 6-4, 7-5. Paige Brookie and Erin McCormack defeated the Sailors’ Kristin Toy and Cori Evans, 6-2, 6-1, at No. 1 doubles.

The Sailors have one more road match before they return home to close out the regular season. Steamboat travels to Loveland for 2 p.m. matches April 15 at Loveland City Park.
