Chuck Lewis State Wildlife Area temporarily closed
The lower portion of the Chuck Lewis State Wildlife Area will close temporarily beginning Tuesday.
The goal is to keep the public at a safe distance while CPW crews with heavy machinery begin a week-long maintenance project along the Yampa River’s bank and channel. The work is critical to maintain CPW’s recently completed river restoration project and is scheduled to wrap up Oct. 27.
The upper portions of the wildlife area, accessible from Routt County Roads 14 and 14F, will remain open to the public; visitors are advised to use caution, avoid work areas and observe all posted signs.
