Steamboat briefs: Zero Waste Initiative seeks volunteers for free concert

— Yampa Valley Sustainability Council’s Zero Waste Initiative is looking for volunteers to work two-hour shifts at Friday’s Free Summer Concert Series show, the Emmitt-Nershi Band. Volunteers will help concert-goers sort recyclables and compostables so trash is reduced to a minimum. Shifts are from 5 to 7 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m., and all volunteers receive a free meal. Any local nonprofit that provides eight or more volunteers for the event will earn a $100 donation for its organization. E-mail zero@yvsc.org to volunteer.

Also at Friday’s concert, LIFT-UP of Routt County will collect nonperishable food items and donations.

Steamboat Triathlon seeks volunteers for Aug. 29 event

Steamboat Triathlon organizers are seeking volunteers. Positions available range from body markers, kayakers, lifeguards, Bike Course Marshals, parking marshals, aide stations, and more. The minimum age for volunteers is 8, accompanied by a parent.

Anyone interested in volunteering should e-mail info@steamboattriathlon.com. Part of being a volunteer includes receiving a “Team Steamboat Triathlon” T-shirt, a goodie bag and brunch after the race. Times for volunteering on race day Aug. 29 are from 5:30 a.m. to noon in three-hour shifts. Volunteers also are needed for packet pick-up Aug. 28.

The triathlon also will offer community service credit for youth or adults who would like to fulfill this obligation.

Participate in The Longevity Project

The Longevity Project is an annual campaign to help educate readers about what it takes to live a long, fulfilling life in our valley. This year Kevin shares his story of hope and celebration of life with his presentation Cracked, Not Broken as we explore the critical and relevant topic of mental health.

Groups seek addresses of locals serving overseas

During July, the staff and patients of Rinn Chiropractic Center have collected items for care packages to be shipped to our armed forces. Organizers now need addresses of Routt County residents serving overseas. The Office of Veterans Affairs and the Steamboat Springs American Legion and VFW also would like that information. Addresses can be sent to Michael T. Condie, CVSO of Routt County. Call 970-879-5489 or e-mail mcondie@co.routt.co.us.
