Steamboat briefs: YVEA starts new metering deployment west of city

Yampa Valley Electric Association is beginning deployment of its advanced metering infrastructure project for members on the west side of Steamboat Springs, Milner and surrounding areas.

Members will receive a phone call a few days prior to YVEA being in their area. Members do not need to be home for YVEA to install the meter. For the most part, power will not be interrupted, but if interruptions should occur, residents may have to reset some of their electronic devices.

YVEA will leave a courtesy notice on residents' doors when meter installation is completed.

Notify YVEA at 970-879-1160 of any access or safety issues or concerns crews should be aware of prior to installing the meters.

Friend of Hayden Library funds improvements

Friends of the Hayden Library recently purchased new items to enhance the Hayden Public Library's ability to serve the community, including an outdoor bulletin board mounted near the library's front door, which is available for community notices, advertisements, news and more. The library encourages resident to stop by or email notices they would like included on the board.

The group also purchased a 50-inch smart television to be used for library programs and for groups in the community room and had a large photograph of the first Routt County Fair framed by the Hayden Frame and Mat shop.

Friends of the Hayden Library president Brigitt Peckham has been instrumental in keeping the funds coming in with various fundraisers.

The Friends is also sponsoring local talks, a DVD presentation of the Hayden Centennial Speakers' program, bake sales, a hand crochet basket giveaway and the free "Seed Library."

The group meets at 1 p.m. the first Friday of each month at the Hayden Public Library, and members encourage the community to join them in support of their library.
