Cool Pool Pentathlon for kids registration is open

Registration is open for Old Town Hot Springs' Cool Pool Pentathlon for kids in kindergarten through eighth grade. The pentathlon starts at 10 a.m. Thursday, the first day of parent-teacher conferences in the Steamboat Springs School District. Teams of five run the entire course, which includes climbing the stairs and racing down the water slide, running the length of the shallow pool, kayaking in the lap pool and swimming or kicking one length of the lap pool. Food bank in Hayden will distribute food as needed

The Haven Assisted Living Center offers respite care

The Haven Assisted Living Center in Hayden offers daytime and overnight respite care for older adults who need supervision. The Adult Activity and Care program is from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesdays. The program includes lunch, activities and help with personal care needs. The cost is $75 per day or $50 for a half-day. Temporary overnight care is available for as many as 30 days for qualified individuals. Clients with memory care needs are welcome at a cost of $100 per day.

CPR and first aid classes are offered at fitness center

Old Town Hot Springs is offering first aid and CPR/AED classes from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 5 and Jan. 9. The class costs $60 and provides Red Cross certification in CPR/Automated External Defibrillator and first aid. Alexis Wolf is the instructor. Preregister at the Hot Springs' front desk. Trail 1101 near Dumont Lake is closed for work

A section of Forest Trail 1101 near Dumont Lake in Routt National Forest will be closed during rehabilitation work on the Four Counties Ditch, according to a news release. The trail will be closed from Dumont Lake to Base Camp Road (Forest Road 311) through the fall as well as part of next year for wetlands rehabilitation work, according to the release. Multiple projects are taking place in the area, including repairs to the Muddy Creek dam on Dumont Lake. The Dumont Lake day-use area and picnic site are closed while the dam is being repaired.
