Steamboat briefs: Work on Oak Street slated to get underway today

Construction is set to begin today on the Oak Street portion of the downtown improvement plan. The city of Steamboat Springs has contracted with Native Excavating and Baseline Engineering to complete the project, which includes installation of curb and gutter, sidewalks, streetscape, storm sewer and electrical conduit.

The project area will include segments of Oak Street between Third and 12th streets, with portions being completed in stages and all segments to be completed by 2018. Work will also include improvements to the Eighth and Oak Street public parking lot.

Beginning today, work will begin between Third and Fifth streets on the north side of Oak Street, which will remain open to pedestrians and vehicular traffic throughout the majority of the project. Closures will be limited to shoulders of the road, and impacts to traffic will only occur during installation of utilities.

A construction hotline will be updated frequently; the number to call is 970-871-7052.
