Steamboat briefs: Three Wire Winter launches with celebration, learning sessions

Bud Werner Memorial Library and Tread of Pioneers Museum invite the community to a celebration of the digital launch of the Three Wire Winter oral history and magazine collection at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in Library Hall. Learn more about this ambitious project that is making Routt County’s local history magazine accessible to the world.

See how Three Wire Winter and its wealth of unedited oral history interviews, magazine articles, photos and other documents now are searchable through the library’s catalog. In the coming year, the collection will also be featured in the Digital Public Library of America, which means this incredible local history resource will soon reach a global audience.

Free screenings available on Diabetes Alert Day in Steamboat

Northwest Colorado Health is recognizing Diabetes Alert Day by offering free, drop-in cardiovascular and diabetes screenings from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 28 at Northwest Colorado Health, 940 Central Park Dr., Suite 101.

Diabetes Alert Day highlights the prevalence and prevention of Type 2 diabetes in adults. Nine out of 10 people most at risk for Type 2 diabetes do not know it, according to the American Diabetes Association.

Screenings, which include blood glucose test, cholesterol panel, blood pressure and body mass index, can help a person gauge their risk for diabetes and take prevent it. Free screenings also are available by appointment. For more information, call 970-879-1632.

Tour de Steamboat benefit ride seeks business sponsors

The Tour de Steamboat, slated for July 22, is a non-competitive cycling event with routes of 26, 46, 66 and 116 miles. Proceeds from the all-volunteer event benefit four local nonprofit organizations: Routt County Riders, Yampa Valley Sustainability Council, Partners in Routt County and Reaching Everyone Preventing Suicide.

In 2016, the Tour de Steamboat raised more than $80,000 for its beneficiary nonprofits. Tour organizers are seeking sponsors for the 2017 event starting at the $300 level. The deadline for sponsorship commitments is April 1. A sponsorship packet and information about the ride is available at
