About 10,905 visitors are expected to be in town Saturday, according to the Steamboat Springs Chamber Resort Association’s lodging barometer released Wednesday.

The figure represents 69 percent capacity at area lodging properties, with downtown occupancy at 84 percent. On the mountain, hotels are forecast at 72 percent capacity, and condos are expected to be 66 percent full.

Lodging is expected to dip to 9,967 visitors by Wednesday.

The Chamber’s lodging barometer is based on survey data from local lodging properties. Its primary function is to help businesses determine staffing levels during the winter and summer tourism seasons. Actual lodging occupancy levels tend to increase from the forecast levels as a result of last-minute bookings.

Northwest Colorado VNA to host volunteer recruitment

The Northwest Colorado Visiting Nurse Association’s new Volunteer Services Program is recruiting volunteers for expanded opportunities throughout the organization.

Opportunities include assisting with fundraisers and events, helping with activities and duties at the Rollingstone Respite House and The Haven Assisted Living facility and helping with behind-the-scenes administrative or maintenance work. Positions can be tailored to volunteers’ unique skills and experience.

YVEA invites readers to solar garden grand opening

Yampa Valley Electric Association will host a community solar garden grand opening celebration from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Steamboat Springs Community Center. The event will mark the completion of YVEA’s first community-owned solar array, and those who attend will have the opportunity to learn more about community solar and meet fellow renewable energy enthusiasts from throughout Yampa Valley. Speakers will include Craig Mayor Terry Carwile, YVEA President and CEO Diane Johnson and Paul Spencer with Clean Energy Collective.
