Tree donations available as gifts for holiday season

The Yampa Valley Sustainability Council is suggesting tree donations as gifts this holiday season. The donated funds will be used in January to purchase trees for ReTree Steamboat, a annual tree-planting event in June that helps to replace trees killed by the mountain pine beetle.

Last year, 3,000 trees were planted on Emerald Mountain and at Routt County schools and The Sanctuary, according to a news release.

Giving levels are as follows:

■ Douglas Fir: $10 (5 trees)
