Steamboat Briefs: Steamboat resident falls short in hug record try

Steamboat Springs resident Dagny McKinley's quest to bring extreme hugging to the Winter X Games fell a bit short of her goal.

McKinley tried Thursday to set a Guinness world record for most hugs in a 24-hour period.

The writer and dogsledding guide needed to hug 5,001 people at the entrance of the extreme sports competition held in Aspen. She made it into the arms of 2,352 people. McKinley said the record attempt was fun and that she'll try again.

Decker joins American Angus Association

Hayden resident Kollen Decker has been made a new junior member of the American Angus Association. Junior members of the association are eligible to register cattle in the American Angus Association, participate in programs conducted by the National Junior Angus Association and take part in association-sponsored shows and other national and regional events.

The American Angus Association is the largest beef registry association in the world, with more than 31,000 active adult and junior members.

Leellen Koroulis elected to CICA board of directors

Routt County resident Leellen Koroulis recently was elected to the board of directors of the Colorado Independent CattleGrowers Association. The CICA is a grass-roots group that works to preserve private property rights and encourage a more productive business climate for cattle ranchers.
