Steamboat briefs: School Board will discuss policies in workshop today
Steamboat Springs — The Steamboat Springs School Board will meet today to discuss policies related to results and the district’s strategic plan; physical education; and bullying, violence, suicide and depression.
Board members will meet at 9 a.m. in the upstairs boardroom at the George P. Sauer Human Services Center on Seventh Street. The workshop is scheduled to adjourn at 4 p.m.
The School Board is not scheduled to take any action during the workshop.
Yampa Valley Medical Center offers CPR class
Yampa Valley Medical Center is offering a CPR and first aid class from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. The $30 class certifies participants through the American Heart Association for basic first aid and adult CPR and AED. Call 871-2500 with questions and to register.
Pet Kare Clinic receives national accreditation
Pet Kare Clinic, of Steamboat Springs, has received accreditation after an evaluation by the American Animal Hospital Association. The evaluation includes a quality assessment review of the hospital’s facility, medical equipment, practice methods and pet health care management, according to a news release.

The Longevity Project is an annual campaign to help educate readers about what it takes to live a long, fulfilling life in our valley. This year Kevin shares his story of hope and celebration of life with his presentation Cracked, Not Broken as we explore the critical and relevant topic of mental health.
Only 15 percent of all small animal veterinary practices in the U.S. have achieved accreditation by the American Animal Hospital Association, the release stated.
“Pet Kare Clinic belongs to a select group of practices that are committed to meeting the standard of veterinary excellence,” Gregg Takashima, DVM, AAHA president, said. “AAHA hospitals pass a stringent evaluation of over 900 standards covering patient care, client service and medical protocols.”

Bud Werner library extends its reading prize collection
Children ages 5 through 10 now have until Aug. 20 to collect prizes for their summer reading at Bud Werner Memorial Library. Come to the children’s desk with your mountain reading map to redeem. The Summer Reading Trivia and Thursday Activity program has ended.
