Steamboat briefs: Safe boating exams offered through Parks and Wildlife
Colorado Parks and Wildlife will offer three safe boating exams during May and June at the Steamboat Springs Parks and Wildlife office, 925 Weiss Drive.
The course is designed for teens 14 and older as well as adults who are interested in earning their boat operator cards and learning about the safe operation of motorboats or personal watercraft, according to a news release.
Stagecoach State Park employees will teach a two-hour classroom review session followed by the exam from 10 a.m. to noon May 18, and from 1 to 3 p.m. June 8 and 22.
Teens ages 14 and 15 are permitted to operate a motorboat after the successful completion of this course. Without the course, teens must be 16 before legally operating a motorboat in Colorado, according to the release.

Tread of Pioneers Museum closed Monday, open Tuesday
The Tread of Pioneers Museum will be closed through Monday. It will reopen Tuesday with normal business hours of 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays.
Registration ends Monday for Hayden T-ball for ages 4 to 7

Treasurer reminds residents to pay their property taxes
Routt County Treasurer Brita Horn would like to remind readers that full payment of property taxes is due Tuesday. For those who paid half of their property tax bills by Feb. 28, the second half is due June 17.
Checks can be made out to Routt County Treasurer and mailed to P.O. Box 770907, Steamboat Springs, CO 80477, or dropped off at 522 Lincoln Ave. Residents also can access their accounts at http://www.co.routt.co.us by selecting “Your Government,” “Departments,” “Treasurer” and “Property Tax Search.”

Nominations accepted for Philanthropist of the Year
The Yampa Valley Community Foundation is accepting nominations for the Philanthropist of the Year award, which was established in 1998 to heighten recognition of giving in the Yampa Valley. Each year, the award honors an individual, business and youth who has exhibited significant charitable giving, insightful leadership and volunteerism, and encouraged others to contribute by example. Old Town Hot Springs raising money for fund
During April, the Old Town Hot Springs is trying to raise $2,000 for the Wayne Kakela Scholarship Fund, which helps provide affordable or free memberships and youth swim lessons for financially disadvantaged families. South Routt Medical Center has an opening on board
The South Routt Medical Center Health Service District board of directors has an opening for a board member. The South Routt Medical Center is a special district governed by Title 32 of the Colorado Revised Statutes. Anyone interested should be registered electors of the district, willing to commit to fulfill a term that ends in May 2014 and be able to attend at least one meeting a month.
