Steamboat briefs: Renowned hoop dance artist to lead workshop

Brecken Rivera, a world-renowned hoop dance artist and instructor, will lead dancers, hoopers and anyone with a passion for movement arts through a special hoop workshop at noon Saturday, Nov. 14, at Sundance Studio in Steamboat Springs. The cost is $50 for the four-hour workshop.

Rivera’s style of hoop dance incorporates organic body movements and waves of exchange with the hoop. Elements of breath, weight, tipping, ramps and transitional imagery all come together through a winding of eights and spirals.

The workshop will focus on soft wave-life motion qualities, subtlety and fluidity of movement, organic momentum in barrel rolls, shifting focus through figure-eights and “catching the wind” of fluid movement. It’s open to all levels, and hoops will be available to borrow and purchase.
