Steamboat briefs: Quilters guild slated to host special trunk show Thursday

The Delectable Mountain Quilters Guild is hosting a special trunk show of quilts by Dana Jones at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, May 18 at the Steamboat Springs Community Center. These quilts are from the Caohagan Island in the Philippines. Jones is a former editor of Quilters Newsletter magazine who lives in Rollinsville. Everyone is welcome to attend.
Cen$ible Energy rebates for 2017 to close June 1
Following the third year of successful electric-side energy efficiency funding in the Yampa Valley, Cen$ible Energy rebates for residential and small business customers will close for 2017 Thursday, June 1. All rebate applications and electric-side residential energy audit requests should be submitted by the end of the day June 1.
So far this year, the Cen$ible Energy program has funded 182 efficiency upgrade rebates for member customers across the Yampa Valley Electric Association territory and helped fund 60 free residential energy assessments by local professional auditors. Rebates are available for four types of Energy Star appliances, up to 10 LED bulbs, programmable thermostats or post-audit air sealing.

Evening of free gardening advice to be held at library
Bud Werner Memorial Library and the Routt County CSU Master Gardeners present "Gardening 101/201: An Evening with the Master Gardeners," from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 17 in Library Hall. With the onset of gardening season in the Yampa Valley, this is a night of expert gardening advice to help gardeners plan and maximize their summer gardens.
Learn about the best use of the short growing season, whether your garden space is small or large, during 2.5 hours of hands-on demonstrations. During this open house gardening event, the community is invited to get their hands in the dirt and talk one-on-one with local gardening experts.

Demonstrations will include an introduction to gardening in Routt County, common pests and weeds, seed selection, transplanting, soil information, container gardens, season extension, water-wise gardening and more. Routt County CSU Extension's soil sample kits will be available for purchase on site, as well. This is a free event, and no registration required.

STEM program coming to Strawberry Park Elementary
Camp Invention, a nationally recognized, nonprofit summer enrichment program, is coming to Strawberry Park Elementary June 12 to 19.
The camp, which is open to students entering kindergarten through sixth grade, is a program of the National Inventors Hall of Fame — a nonprofit organization dedicated to recognizing inventors and invention, promoting creativity and advancing the spirit of innovation and entrepreneurship — and supported by the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
For students entering kindergarten through sixth grade, Camp Invention is a weeklong adventure, offering activities that foster hands-on problem solving, collaboration and the use of science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
All local Camp Invention programs are facilitated and taught by certified educators who reside and teach in the community. Sign-up now for 11th annual Routt County cleanup day
The 11th annual Routt County Community Cleanup Day will be held from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, May 20. Individuals, businesses and groups are invited to help clean up Routt County during this community event.
The day begins with vest/bag pickup and clean-up location assignments from 8 to 8:30 a.m. at Olympian Hall, 845 Howelsen Pkwy. Crews will clean up various roads throughout Routt County from 9 to 11:30 a.m., and a barbecue lunch with prizes will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Olympian Hall to round out the day.

Free, confidential Medicare help available via agency
The Area Agency on Aging of Northwest Colorado has established a new local office to provide free, confidential counseling to anyone with questions about Medicare.
The office is located at 3001 S. Lincoln Ave., Suite E, and the local phone number is 970-819-6401.
