Steamboat briefs: Police use Taser on woman in arrest Sunday afternoon

— Steamboat Springs Police Department Sgt. Gerard Geis said police used a Taser to subdue a woman who was arrested on suspicion of domestic violence Sunday afternoon in Steamboat Springs. Geis said the woman is in her 40s and was treated at Yampa Valley Medical Center, then taken to Routt County Jail. He couldn’t provide any more information Sunday evening but said more information could be available today.

Chief Plaza Theater group planning event Wednesday

The group Friends of the Chief will present its plan for converting the Chief Plaza Theater to a cultural center with a focus on performing arts, films and a traveling acts venue, from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Centennial Hall, 124 10th St. A Q-and-A session will follow the presentation.

Library to host music and movement series for kids

Bud Werner Memorial Library will host a three-part Music and Movement Storytime Series for children ages 2 to 6 with a parent or caregiver, featuring violinist Monique Mead and the children’s librarian. The free programs will be held in Library Hall at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 13 and Aug. 10. There will be no Toddler Story-times on these days.



Council seeks Himalayan artifacts for art exhibit

The Steamboat Springs Arts Council is presenting a community Himalayan Art Exhibit in conjunction with a visit from Tibetan Buddhist monks and a Mandala sand art display at Bud Werner Memorial Library in August. The council’s exhibit will be on display from Aug. 13 through 17. A community reception will be at 6 p.m. Aug. 15.

The council is seeking community members to contribute items for the exhibit. Items can be original pieces of art reflecting the Himalayan culture or items such as paintings, photos, thangkas, statues or sculptures collected during travels to Tibet, Nepal, India or Bhutan. To submit a piece, send a photo, the physical dimensions and a written description of what the item represents.
