Steamboat briefs: Police are investigating possible $10,000 theft

— Steamboat Springs Police Department officers are investigating the possibility of a theft of $10,000 at Pediatrics of Steamboat Springs.

Police were called to the office, in the 900 block of Central Park Drive, at 2:43 p.m. Monday. Officer Jeff Laroche said the case involves "money changing hands between an employee and employer" and that it may be a civil matter, depending on the result of pending interviews.

Laroche said officers and detectives are continuing to question people involved in the case and that he could not release any other information. A person who answered the phone at the pediatric center said the office had no comment.

Homeowners reminded to clear fire hydrants

Steamboat Springs Fire Rescue is reminding property owners to keep fire hydrants on their property clear of snow and debris during the winter months so crews can access hydrants during an emergency. That duty is the responsibility of the property owner, not of the city or Fire Rescue crews. Address numbers on buildings and residences also should be visible and clear of debris to help emergency personnel respond quickly to situations. Call Fire Rescue at 970-879-7170 with questions or for more information.
