Steamboat briefs: Parks and Wildlife award nominations due Friday

Parks and Wildlife award nominations due Friday

The Colorado Division of Parks and Wildlife is seeking nominations for its Wildlife Landowner of the Year award, which recognizes outstanding contributions made by private landowners to conserve wildlife, enhance wildlife habitat and provide public access for hunting and fishing, according to a news release.

Nominees must be a resident of Colorado or own at least 160 acres in the state and be actively engaged in farming or ranching business as an owner, lessor, lessee or manager. Winners will be selected by Colorado Parks and Wildlife based on land management practices, wildlife habitat improvements, accommodations for public hunting and fishing access and leadership in the promotion of sound wildlife practices on private lands, according to the release.

Tickets are on sale for 2nd annual Dancing with Stars

Tickets for the second annual Dancing with the Stars are on sale at All That Jazz. Tickets are $50. Proceeds from ticket sales and a silent auction benefit Northwest Rocky Mountain CASA, which provides advocacy services to abused and neglected children to help assure their needs are met. Doors open at 6:15 p.m. Jan. 12 at Strings Music Pavilion, where eight stars will compete along with their choreographers for the Grand Winner title, now held by Pam Vanatta. This year's stars include Adonna Allen, Caroline Lalive, Lisa Olson, Terin Petersen, Moose Barrows, Charles Feldmann, Kipp Rillos and Scott Stanford. For more information, call 970-819-6233.

United Way Holiday Wishes program seeks donations

Those who are interested in donating a gift to the United Way Holiday Wishes program can find a gift registry by going to and clicking on "Local Benefit." Gifts should be dropped off at the Community Holiday Wishes Party from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Olympian Hall at Howelsen Hill Lodge. If your gift is wrapped, make sure to include a description of the item and who it is for. The community party is free and includes sleigh rides, tubing, cookies and hot chocolate, and visits with Santa.
