Steamboat briefs: Nearly 11K visitors expected to be in Steamboat today

Approximately 10,900 visitors are expected to be in town Saturday, March 18, according to the Steamboat Springs Chamber Resort Association’s lodging barometer released Wednesday, March 15.

The figure represents 73 percent capacity at area lodging properties, with downtown occupancy at 100 percent. On the mountain, hotels are forecast at 86 percent capacity, and condos are expected to be 64 percent full.

Lodging is expected to decrease to 8,700 visitors by Wednesday, March 22.

The chamber’s lodging barometer is based on survey data from local lodging properties. Its primary function is to help businesses determine staffing levels during the winter and summer tourism seasons. Actual lodging occupancy levels tend to increase from the forecast levels as a result of last-minute bookings.

Group seeks donations to help Northwest fire victims

Recent fires in Northeastern Colorado have greatly impacted many of its farmers and ranchers due to destruction of fencing, loss of livestock and damage to fields and equipment.

In an effort to support recovery efforts, Community Agriculture Alliance is collecting fencing materials, specifically wood posts and T posts, from 11:30 a.m. to noon on Wednesday, March 22, at the Steamboat Springs Community Center immediately prior to the Colorado Ag Water Alliance Workshop.

Individuals are encouraged to bring good, usable wood posts and T posts that will be collected and delivered to the Haxtun area in Northeastern Colorado the following week and put to immediate use.

In lieu of purchasing new materials, people are encouraged to donate directly to the relief efforts so fencing materials can be purchased in bulk.

Donations can be brought to the event or mailed to 229 S. Colorado Ave., Haxtun, CO 80731 with checks payable to the Haxtun Credit Union with “Agricultural Fire Relief” in the memo.

Any producers interested in donating livestock to restore lost herds are asked to contact Jenna Keller at 970-846-6346.
