Steamboat briefs: Library seeks storytellers and designers

— Bud Werner Memorial Library is launching Story-time for Grown-ups this fall. Participants will spend an hour in Library Hall listening to contemporary and classic short stories read aloud by some of the Yampa Valley’s finest voices. Story-time for Grown-ups is a noon “brown bag lunch” program that will be scheduled every three to four weeks from October through May.

Auditions for Story-time for Grown-ups readers will be at noon Aug. 24 and 26, in Library Hall. Prospective readers will be asked to do one cold reading and one prepared reading. Bring one prepared reading to the audition, not to exceed one minute in length. The library will provide a piece for the cold reading at the audition. Contact Artistic Director Stuart Handloff at or 970-355-9403 with questions about how to prepare for an audition.

Get more information about what will be expected of official Story-time for Grown-ups readers and public speaking training opportunities at, or call library Adult Programs Coordinator Jennie Lay at 970-367-4917.

The library also is looking for designers to help set the stage for the events. Designers will be publicly credited for their work. Interested designers should call Lay at 970-367-4917 or e-mail
