Steamboat briefs: Last health insurance help sessions are Friday
Sunday is the last day to qualify for tax credits that can help pay the cost of private health insurance with free preventative care and no provisions for pre-existing conditions. Not having health insurance in 2015 could result in penalties. Enrollment help is available from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday at the Northwest Colorado Visiting Nurse Association, 940 Central Park Drive, Suite 101. Drop-ins are welcome. Coffee with a Council slated for Friday at 7:30 a.m.
Steamboat Springs City Council member Scott Ford will host Coffee with a Council from 7:30 to 9 a.m. Friday in the Crawford Room of Centennial Hall, 124 10th St. There is no set topic for discussion, and the event is open to the community. Coffee and light refreshments will be served.
Small business start-up workshop for Wednesday
A small business start-up workshop will be held from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Feb. 18 in room 127 of the Colorado Mountain College Alpine Campus’ Academic Center. As part of the “First Steps Seminar” by the CMC Entrepreneurship Center and SCORE, the workshop is free and will help participants analyze potential for new businesses and assess their strengths and weaknesses as business owners. Alzheimer’s Association sponsors new support group
A new caregiver information and support group, sponsored by the Alzheimer’s Association, has begun. The group, which will meet from 3 to 4:15 p.m. at Rollingstone Respite House, will focus on the specific issues faced daily by spouses who care for their partners suffering from dementia. Concerns and ideas will be shared with others who experience similar situations. The group will be facilitated by Barbara Bronner, geriatric social worker. For more information, call 970-879-8942.
Free mammograms, pap smears for eligible women
The Northwest Colorado Visiting Nurse Association is offering free mammograms and pap tests for women 40 to 64 who are uninsured or underinsured, have not had a pap test or mammogram in the past 12 months and meet income requirements. Call the VNA at 970-879-1632 or 970-824-8233 to determine eligibility.
Volunteers needed for event planning, branding
Mainstreet Steamboat Springs is in need of volunteers to help create programs and events that will benefit downtown businesses and the community. Volunteers are asked to work two to four hours per month. Volunteers are needed for the Promotion Committee, which plans special events, retail events and branding.
